Just a Minute rules ...

Post by tony h » Mon Sep 10, 2018 5:41 pm

Listening to the programme the other day a challenge of repetition was not allowed.

The alleged repetition was something like "monkey" and "monkey's". Now my view is that apostrophe-s is not part of the word but is in itself a word. Thus the word "monkey" was repeated.

What is the view of the sagacious ones?

For what it is worth, I agree with you Tony.
I wouldn't allow "monkey" and "monkeys" either.

If you followed that principle consistently, you would also be prohibiting apostrophe S from being used more than once by the same speaker in the same 60-second segment.

I think that would cripple the game, or at least make it exceedingly difficult to play.

I see your point. Although they do tend to ignore repletion of small words such as "of". The apostrophe-s, in many cases, has an equivalence to "of".
