The World Service site of the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) has a wide-ranging area for English learners that is geared to the needs of adults who already have a basic knowledge of English.

One of the main sections presents many of the BBC's news stories in both text and audio format. Some words and expressions are highlighted in the text and explained in more detail at the end of each story. (The news stories are also searchable.)

Other notable areas are Business English; Grammar & Vocabulary, and Quizzes. There are also resources for teachers, plus much more. Go to the first of the links above to explore all of the BBC's Learning English site.
