look like Peter Pan

Post by azz » Tue Jan 08, 2019 8:53 am

A says to B: Look! That guy looks like Peter Pan!

B replies:
a. He looks like Peter Pan would look if he gained twenty pounds
b. He looks like Peter Pan if he gained twenty pounds.
c. He looks like Peter Pan has gained twenty pounds
d. He looks like Peter Pan who has gained twenty pounds.

Which of the above sentences are grammatically correct?
Which are natural?

Presumably the person has a face like Peter Pan and is probably wearing clothes like Peter Pan's but is a lot heavier.

Many thanks.

As they are written, only a) is correct and conveys the intended meaning.

Now, c'mon -- does anyone really know what Peter Pan looks like? I ask you . . .

Apparently, he looks a lot like a woman. I guess that means that Mary Martin and Sandy Duncan were "male actors".

..or as the satirical commercial posts at the bottom of one frame, "Actors - NOT real people".

I suspect it was because slightly built women looked more boyish than mature men. I think now a slender young man would be cast in the role.
