Hi you guys! I checked the meaning of "So I hear" online but I found no results. I heard this conversation from a movie, in this situation, woman B has been facing a lot of tough things in her family. Could you please let me know what "So I hear" mean in this situation?

Woman A: Hey! How are you doing?
Woman B: I got better days.
Woman A: You look tired.
Woman B: So I hear.

Your answers will be greatly appreciated.

The literal meaning is roughly "Yes, I've heard that".

In this context, it seems to me to have a rather sarcastic edge: something along the lines of "I've had enough of people telling me that," but with the thought expressed more indirectly.

And if the speaker is being sarcastic, something along the lines of "so I've been told" might be more normal. But maybe not. :)

I think "so I hear" might more often be a response to less personal news.

n this context I would imagine a context of someone who is working on a difficult and important problem that needs to be resolved. Scenarios may include: a detective working on a terrorist plot, lawyers working on time critical agreements etc.

Then the: "you look tired" and "So I hear" is a sense of "of course I now I am tired, there is no opportunity for rest, and it is only going to get worse!"

With the right context almost anything can sound appropriate.
