Yes to a1 and b4. There is an assumed consistency in singularity/plurality between the explicit referent and the implied one.

Just a couple of comments on the words.

The "good book" usually/often means the Bible. Good books doesn't.

I find "bad" an awkward adjective to use with books. I am not sure how, in general parlance, books can be bad. "Others" would probably fit better.
