The other day someone described a training scheme as a way of, 'unshrinking' our employees.

Where did the word come from? Who originated it?

That's how they can think out of "the box!" Of course it could mean undoing the harm a shrink has done to them. Exorcism? *G*

I looked up the word on google and apparently it does refer to undoing damage done to individuals by organisations and systems.

Whiteley and Mckeown coined the word for the title of their book Unshrink: Yourself - People - Business - the World (2002) and in an interview Whiteley explained the word as follows:

<“We took a risk by inventing a new term – especially as we criticise management jargon! The point about ‘Unshrink’, though, is that it is the best way we could think of to conjure up the idea of personal growth while attacking the myths that limit or shrink us.”>
