Scholarly interest here. I know the etymology of bigot/bigotry is fuzzy. The first lexical evidence I find for this term (in English) occurs in Randle Cotgrave's 1611 dictionary, "A Dictionarie of the French and English Tongues." It also appears in a couple of other 17th century dictionaries. I was wondering if you guys might know of lexical evidence in English which predates these dictionaries. As for the term conservative, I know it was coined about 2 centuries ago. I am aware of other forms of the term conserve which predate this, but my interest here is specifically in the terms conservative and/or conservatism. The earliest lexical evidence I have found for it to date (in English) is Noah Webster's 1806 dictionary, "A Compendious Dictionary of the English Language." Is anyone aware of something earlier? Thanks in advance.ACCESS_POST_ACTIONS
