Gentlemen,
While your correspondence on language has been very interesting, the personal thrust and parry is much less so. I was recently accused of "nitpicking", as I pursued a question which others found boring, the reason being that they seemed unable to respond satisfactorily, that is, perhaps they didn"t know. While the present verbal pissing contest may seem interesting to you I can assure you it is very boring to others.
We must all realize that while verbal dust ups can be salutory for the participants surely we all have a responsibility not to bore.

Gentlemen, please, for our sake of all take it outside.

If the "nitpicking" you refer to was the one I used, then I used it in reference to myself and not to you, and I think that several of the members made valuable contributions in the Choice or choices thread while discussing the issues. I apologise that we were unable to respond satisfactorily.
