A few shades

Post by Stevenloan » Mon Aug 10, 2020 5:30 am

A: Gov. Gretchen Whitmer traveled to Delaware last weekend to meet with Joe Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee’s first known in-person session with a potential running mate as he nears a decision.

B: It would be wonderful to get this power hungry fear monger out of Michigan but bad for the nation as a whole.
She is also a few shades too fair.

- Hi guys! I Googled the meaning of "a few shades too fair" but I found no results. What does this phrase mean in this context?

Thanks very much!

There has been much speculation over whether Biden would select a person of colour as his running-mate in order to make his presidential candidacy more attractive to America's ethnic minorities.

Person B thinks this is one reason that Governor Whitmer would not be a suitable pick as the prospective veep: she is white (= fair / fair-skinned), as Bonnie points out.
