- Hi everybody! Is it correct to say "To get to the small island from the mainland, there's a path you can walk there because it's not flooded with water." in this situation?

Thanks very much!

People would certainly understand what you meant, Steve, but it's probably not the way a native speaker would word it.
"You can walk to the island, on the sandbar (spit, tombolo) that connects it to the mainland"
BTW...where is that...it's beautiful!

I would probably say something like "You can get to the small island from the mainland along a connecting walkway that {isn't submerged / is above the water}".

One could quibble that it doesn't completely meet the definition of an island, because it isn't entirely surrounded by water. :)

I would call it a causeway.
"At low tide you can walk to the island on the causeway".

Quite right, Bob. I felt that 'walkway' was somehow wrong, but you nailed it.

Thanks. :D

This is the tidal causeway from Rhossili to Worms Head on the Gower Peninsular not too far from where I live.
As you can see at high tide the causeway is completely submerged. It is not unknown for visitors to get stuck overnight.
