To be gone

A: Kenny Rogers, country music legend, died Friday night, according to a statement posted by his family. He was 81.

B: My mom always spoke of a concert she saw with him and she got a rose. She is gone almost 2 years now, but that was a favorite memory of hers and now mine.

- Hi everybody! Does B use "She is gone almost 2 years now" as a cute way to mean that "She died / passed away nearly 2 years ago" in this case?

Thanks very much!

Exactly Steve, but it does seem to be an odd construction. You be more likely to hear "she has been gone..." rather than "she is gone..."
It may be a regional quirk, perhaps from New York. They seem to use that jumbled time thing..."I have been driving a car since I'm 16 years old!"
