Spin to the holiday

Post by Stevenloan » Wed Dec 26, 2018 4:47 pm

"Christmas is celebrated very differently throughout the world. And in a country as large as the United States, it's no surprise that every state adds their own individual spin to the holiday. No matter what state you're in, you can be guaranteed to find a special holiday celebration happening in December, whether it's a Santa Claus race in Reno, Nevada, or a Christmas tree made of beer kegs in Rochester, New York."

Hi everyone! What does "adds their own individual spin to the holiday" mean in this situation?

Thanks a lot!

In this context, spin = variation, twist, (alternative) way of doing something.
