The object that Anastasia Lin is wearing is a sash.

She should be commended for using her visibility as Miss World Canada to take a stand in support of the otherwise defenceless Falun Gong followers in China.

At a time when the apparatus of the state is being used to crush even the hint of any dissent by ordinary citizens — even in alleged democracies like the USA, let alone one-party states — it is important for those citizens to be reminded that it is possible to resist such abuses of power, even when an individual act of resistance is insufficient by itself to bring about the change in behaviour they desire.
