Hi everybody! What does "clouds got in my way" mean in the song "Both Sides Now" below?

"Both Sides Now

Joni Mitchell
Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down and still somehow
It's cloud's illusions I recall
I really don't know clouds at all"

Thanks a lot!

I am not sure that it means anything. It is just poetry.

I disagree with Bob's (non-)interpretation.

My reading of the lyrics is that the singer's previous optimistic attitude to what she calls 'clouds' (which are actually the problems that one encounters in life) has been transformed by experience into a largely pessimistic outlook, and an acknowledgement that life's challenges have turned out to be more complicated, and a greater obstacle to achieving her ambitions ("clouds got in my way"), than she first thought.
