Dentist's helper

Hi everybody! What do you call a person who helps or assists a dentist whenever the dentist takes care of a patient's teeth?

In the UK, this would usually be a dental nurse.

Over here, that person would be a dental assistant.

In the UK there are various titles: dental assistant, dental nurse or dental hygienist.

With the right context almost anything can sound appropriate.

When I lived in the US, the ones I encountered were referred to as dental technicians, dental assistants or (depending on their degree of specialization) dental hygienists.

I just put Steven's page into an online translator and it shows "no experience necessary" which would suggest a title of "Administrator" or "Dental Practice Administrator".

And on a cultural point it specifically requires "females". In the UK that would be illegal as it must be open to female and male applicants.

I never thought about it, but you're right - I have never seen a male dental assistant or hygienist here, either. I'm going to ask my dentist relatives if such a critter exists.

I asked my dentist sister & bil. They said there are male assistants & hygienists, but they are rare. Don't know why. I'm guessing it's the lower level of pay.

There is a male dental nurse in the practice I use. He is of Chinese stock.
