I'm afraid I also disagree with your suggested alternative wording, which I suspect almost nobody would actually use because it sounds so pedantic. The only people I could imagine favouring it are certain old-fashioned prescriptivist grammarians.
For a more formal-sounding wording than b), I'd suggest something like
I don't want to see work...
i) of the sort / kind
ii) that looks like what
iii) which resembles
iv) resembling what
...we saw last month.
