Addressing two women in one letter

Post by Archived Topic » Wed Dec 26, 2001 2:56 pm

Hi there - I haven't attached a letter but I just need to know how to address two women in a letter. With men 'Messrs X & Y' is used but what is the correct format for women?

Thank you!

I don't know - I usually send one letter to each woman.

I agree with Natalio's approach. When writing to two women in a single letter in order to arrange a rendezvous with each one, even the most skilful letter-writer is apt to find his powers of diplomacy taxed beyond breaking point.

In other words, it's best to grasp the nettle and fork out for the extra stamp.

Try one of these:
Dear Ms. X and Ms. Y:
Mesdames:
Greetings:
Howdy:
Yo!

(I don't advise using the last two.)
