consider something important

Post by dante » Thu May 20, 2010 3:42 pm

Hello,

I'd like to know about the common expression for the meaning "consider something important" as for example in:

1." She doesn't attach/give/pay much importance to her looks/how she looks."
2." She doesn't place much importance on her looks/how she looks."

Thank you for the help

For me:

1a1. She doesn't attach much importance to her looks.
1a2. She doesn't attach much importance to how she looks.
1b1. *She doesn't give much importance to her looks.
1b2. *She doesn't give much importance to how she looks.
1c1. *She doesn't pay much importance to her looks.
1c2. *She doesn't pay much importance to how she looks.
2a. She doesn't place much importance on her looks.
2b. She doesn't place much importance on how she looks.

The (2)s sound best. (1b)s and (1c)s are right out.

1b3. She doesn't give a damn about her looks.
1c3. She doesn't pay much attention to her looks.

Thank you zmjezhd. What about : "put much weight to how she looks/to her looks" or "put much concern to how she looks/to her looks" ?

She doesn't put much weight on how she looks. (Sounds bad to have weight and looks in same sentence, but socially not grammatically.)

She is concerned on how she looks.

She is concerned about her looks.

Quit talking about me behind my back! Actually, dante, it should be "Her weight makes her look important."
