1001 Books

As if we didn’t already have a stack of unread books on the night stand, someone has decided we need to add a tome which is simply another list of books we need to read before we die(!?) The New York Times discusses the book, “1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die”, Peter Boxall, General Editor, here. A site called “listology” provides a somewhat flawed list of the titles, against which you can measure your own reading habits: how many on the list you’ve read, whether you agree with the editor’s choices, etc. without having to actually buy the book. The flaw in this list is the fact that the compiler has numbered even the blank spaces and the headings, so, really, it is only a list of 993. There is probably a better list out there, but this is linked to the New York Times article. You’d think they’d know better . . .

Who's got the time to wade through a list of even "only" 993 books when there are so many things to do before we die...

I have so little time to actually read a book these days that I've come to depend almost entirely on audio books. Does that count?
