This one had me puzzled for quite a while!

We've created this area in the hope of seeing material ranging from some well-told (or well retold) jokes to original writing with a humorous slant, or anything else that might appeal to the kind of person who enjoys playing with words more than people. That probably means someone like yourself. N.B. -- Postings preceded by ** contain some sexual or risqué content. (Makes them easier to find.)

Not to belabour the point, but you can't stop even empty giant-bee colonies from being off-putting.

Well, Woz, the light should dawn if you remember that one lights fires in a grate. After that it should bee simple.

OK. Maybe it's a UK thing. Even with all the hints, I still don't get it. (And if somebody actually explains it, I'm sure I'll feel really stupid.)

OK, Lois. Here goes:

"If grate be [great B] empty [MT], put coal on [colon].

If grate be full, stop [full stop (US = period)] putting coal on."

So it is partly a UK thing...

OK. I am dense. Thanks, Eric. And maybe it's a Southern thing, too--we don't get much cold weather for putting coal on the grate around here. :)
