As I have posted in a previous announcement, the site is currently experiencing massive attempts by spambots (automated spamming systems) to flood the forums with spam. Thanks to the valiant efforts of Erik and to some further measures that we have put in place, the board is currently relatively free of spam. We would, however, ask you to report any spam postings that you may see and that we may have missed. Do this by clicking the exclamation mark at the bottom right of any post. Thanks in advance.
Over the course of the next weeks and months, we shall be putting further measures in place to attempt to reduce the site traffic caused by these loathsome pests. This may mean that the site will occasionally be down for maintenance, or, if I make a mistake, you may get a 500 error. These will usually be short-term events. If traffic is likely to considerably exceed our limit, the forums will be closed until the 1st of the following month. An appropriate message will be displayed.
Because we are now aggressively combating the spammers, it is not impossible that your own computer may fall into one of the traps. If this happens, you will not be able to access any part of the site. If you are a bona fide member and this happen to you, you should access the site from an entirely different computer (not just a different computer in your own home) and send a private message to me or Erik, and we'll restore access as soon as we can. This, of course, means that you must know your user name and password!
We apologize for any inconvenience that this may cause.
If you are visiting us for the first time, please take a few minutes to read through the articles here. If you wish to post a question, make sure you read the "Guide to posting". This exists as a topic in this forum.
I'd also like to give a shout-out to Ken and Edwin for their help with deleting spam postings and banning individual spammers. For instance, from one of our logs I can see that within the past day or so Ken had to delete 20 individual postings from one spammer alone. With this kind of volume, dealing with spam starts to become quite time-consuming, so I really appreciate their help.Post actions:
