fold twofold threefold
Increasing something tenfold is certainly accepted as a ten times increase. Folding (doubling something over)ten times actually increases the number of layers by 1024. You really shouldn't have messed with that table!

person of Chinese descent
Does anyone have any insight as to why the term "Chinaman" is considered to be,if not derogatory, certainly no longer PC? It's obvious why those small black candies that I ate in my younger days are now "licorice kids" and today's children eeny meeny miny mo by catching robbers or tigers by the toe....

knack
I had a British friend who always complained of being "absolutely bloody knackered". Good to know that it means tired or worn out. Where I come from, being knackered wouldn't be something you'd want to keep telling everyone about.

Behead......Dehead?
Can someone please explain to me why the prefix "be" is used in the word behead. I thought "be" was used to indicate making something happen and it always seemed to me to be more of an act of giving rather than taking away(bestow, bedeck, bequest). If something is beflowered, is it not adorned with fl...

apostrophe
Hey Folks I was hoping somebody could help settle a dispute for me. Is dropping the "g" from the end of a word considered an acceptable one word contraction? If it is, where would the apostrophe be placed? I have always understood that the apostrophe replaced (and ocurred in the same position as)the...
