coon's age

I stumbled on this web sight by accident-originally my purpose was just to find what a coon's age meant. I found, however, some thoughts from others that made me sit back and think. I assume there are of web sites where these types of discussions are the theme, but I have found myself looking forwar...

coon's age

I don't really feel this off topic discussion is agony-but I do see that there seems a need to continue in another forum-or maybe not-why can't we discuss something just because it has branched off from the original discussion. Isn't this where most great observations are made? It is not as instant ...

I was with you sort of until you felt the need to mention ones grammar, math and spelling skills. don't you see that people with opinions and feelings that need to bre heard because they are afraid they will be riducled by the language police. Do you want to hear what they are feeling or do you wish...

P.S. While on the latest census I checked white, my classroom has been working on another color spectrum. We started with black and white and decided that included very few if any of us. Remember they are only 7 and 8 so their knowledge of color words is somewhat limited. We started with white and w...

coon's age

I do agree "in theory" to the all about intention theory, but let's be realistic. What are the intentions of anyone when they call women hoes (leaving the n word aside) Would anyone who utters the word hoe like it to be said about their wife, sister, cousin, friend-or face it anyone they hold in res...

I'm with you on distracted, but you can only take a conversation on coon's age so far. And you did hit the nail on the head-somewhat-my class is made up of 90% economically disandvanged children, though both black and white. I can honestly say that unless your children live in a bubble are homeschoo...

Bob or Bobina-you did not offend me in any way and I am sorry if I somehow mad you think that, because what I was trying to say was the exact opposite. With all the sad and scary things going on in this world and particularly the USA I wouldn't think that we are afforded the choice to be offended by...

Still I have never heard of "apropos". Are there any other words that make one cringe from the educational arena-either as speaker or listener? If I hear someone refer to our students as "kiddos" one more time I may role my eyes in public. How do you know when to use quotes and if you are over using...

From coons age to ho isn't the giant leap one would think what with the Imus mess and everyone their brother jumping in to enlighten us with their perspective. Both make valid points while both make absurd points also. I think the issue is what one makes of it-but if one does not mean their comments...

Thanks for explaining your reply-being out of school for a while I forget all the well worn phrases used by my teachers. Now I get to complain about the annoying words and phrases used by self proclaimed educational experts (consultants). Two more that I find eye rolling annoying are "kiddos" and th...

coon's age

Apparently racoons are not as accident prone as thought-a lifespan of 14 years isn't too bad. Now if the phrase was a oppossums age we would have a problem. Thanks for the link, it did at least clear up that it is not racist, though I didn't even think of that originally, and that basically no one is...
